Is there a "networking etiquette"?Networking EtiquetteFormal networking functions are plagued by people who do not know how to maximize the opportunity. They may give out a few business cards and collect a few business cards. Whilst your business card is your silent salesperson, some deem their card to be the cookie'. Big mistake. Your business card is simply a tool to exchange for the business card of the person you are in conversation with. Rather than working the room' identify two or three key people at the function whom you wish to build a relationship with. Choose people you are attracted to as it is important you like the people you are dealing with. Concentrate on listening to their conversation. Talk about anything but work. "We tend to focus on what people do', when who they are' is of more importance!" |
